Angelo Mathews, former Sri Lankan skipper who has represented his country in all the three formats of cricket as a middle-order batsman & medium-fast bowler. Today, he has officially announced his retirement from the ‘Red Ball Test Cricket’ officially.
“With a grateful heart and unforgettable memories. It is time for me to say goodbye to the most cherished format of the game, International Test Cricket! The past 17 years of playing cricket for Sri Lanka has been my highest honour and pride. Nothing can match that feeling of patriotism and servitude when one dons the National Jersey.
I have given my everything to cricket and Cricket has given me everything in return and made me the person that I am today.” – Angelo Mathews, Sri Lankan Player.
Initially, he debuted in cricket in 2008 through the ODI format and later in 2009 Angelo debuted in both Test and T20 formats. Angelo retired from the ODI and T20 formats previously and today from the Red Ball test cricket format (the first test match against Bangladesh which is scheduled this June 2025 will be his final match in test). The official statement underpins that he will be available to play for the white ball test crickets.
