The Asean and it’s member states are pushing for the creation of “bubbles” that will let people travel from one spot to another while restricting them on going to area heavily infected by the virus.
This initiative aims to kickstart tourism heavily hit by the pandemic. According to Hla Myint, director at Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, the recent Asean meeting discussed the strategies to help revive the ailing tourism.
One of the measure introduced was “travel bubbles” similar to China and Korea where they open the country for business travellers moving between 10 Chinese regions and South Korea with the condition of testing negative on Covid-19 before departing and upon arrival.
Former UNWTO director Xu Jing said that the region should adapt the bubble travel and start with neighbouring countries like Myanmar and China, Laos and Thailand. D Developing this system would help jumpstart the tourism industry of the region.
