Australian Open 2025 – Day 2 Highlights and Key Moments

The illustrious sport event and the first Grand Slam of the Tennis calendar is “Australian Open 2025” began on January 13, 2025 and the day 2 of Australian Open 2025 is filled with first round matches for both men’s and women’s singles with some predictable victories of notable players of this edition. One of the iconic moments of Day 2-highlights is the three-hour battle between the seasoned champion Novak Djokovic and Nishesh Basavareddy.

Day 2: Highlights

The highlight of Day 2 is the challenging rivalry between Djokovic and a 19 year old Basavareddy who sealed the spot in the second round with the win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. The electrifying Tennis action also continues in various other Arenas which includes the dominating win by the defending champion Jannik Sinner which is registered against Nicolas Jarry, 7-6(2), 7-6(5), 6-1. The unexpected biggest upset of Day 2 is the 11th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas who had been stunned by Alex Michelsen and the four hour grueling five-set battle between Frances Tiafoe and Arthur Rinderknech ended with the uphand of Tiafoe, 7-6(2), 6-3, 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-3. The local fans were disappointed with the loss of Nick Kygios, the well-known Australian star who landed the court after two years to Britain’s Jacob Fearnley in Straight sets. 

Whereas, the Women’s singles is no lesser in action and drama on the field and was glowing under the Sun with the massive victories which includes Marta Kostyuk, the unseeded Ukrainian against the 12th seed Caroline Garcia in three-set match, followed by the world no.1 Aryna Sabalenka stepped into the second round by her commanding win 6-3, 6-2 against former US open champion Sloane Stephens. The crowd were thrilled by the terrific and supreme performance of the American Sensation Coco Gruff and the fourth seed Iga Swiatek, finishing off their games with the scores 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-4 respectively.

The end of the second day showcased the unpredictability in the sports with rising stars and seasoned champions on their first round of matches in AO 2025 and left a mark in the history. The fans of AO who are beyond the borders are eagerly waiting for the upcoming matches and the drama which are yet to unfold.
