Chinese Animated Film Ne Zha 2 Shatters Box Office Records, Earns $1 Billion in Days

 An animated movie about a youngster who uses magic to fight demons has become the highest grossing movie in China’s history and a source of pride for the country.

Ne Zha 2 has made history by earning over $1.1 billion making it the highest grossing non-English film of all time, the highest-grossing Chinese film of all time and the highest-grossing film of 2025. 

The animated fantasy film is the follow up to Ne Zha which came out in 2019. It now holds the record for the most tickets sold in a single nation since 2002 surpassing Wolf Warrior 2’s record of 160 million. By the end of its theatrical run, the movie is expected to have sold close to 250 million tickets demonstrating that its domination is far from finished.

Ne Zha 2 Synopsis:

Jiaozi is the director of Ne Zha 2 which is based on the classic tale “Investiture of the Gods” as is its predecessor. The narrative centres on Nezha’s journey during which she must fight the fabled Dragon Kings to protect Chentangguan’s stronghold. 

The film debuted in theatres on January 29, 2025 with its dramatic narrative with profound roots in Chinese mythology, intense action scenes and breathtaking visual canvas. 

Lü Yanting, Han Mo, Chen Hao, Lü Qi, Zhang Jiaming and Yang Wei are among the voice actors. Ne Zha 2 will be released globally on 14th February with English subtitles and also an English dubbed version is anticipated in the upcoming weeks.
