KUALA LUMPUR – The government is set to received 10 million face masks from China to combat the demand in the country.
According to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, once a package of 10 million masks arrives from China, it will be distributed to all Malaysians for free.
“This is the contribution of the government during times of crisis which we are currently facing now,” he said during a press conference today.
The Transport Ministry will be facilitating the logistics and will work closely with the airlines to fly in the face masks in phases.
National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) were also given instruction to prepare financial details and to expedite the shipment. The face mask would cost around RM1.18 per item.
“Nadma will be in charge of the distribution. The priority for these face masks will be the frontliners,” Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said in an interview Extra face masks will then be distributed in the market for the public. However Fadillah remind the people inline with World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Health Ministry advisory that people who are not exposed (to Covid-19 patients) as well as those who do not suffer from any symptoms do not need to wear the face masks.
