Duterte names Coscolan as new PNP chief

METRO MANILA – President Duterte has appointed Lt. Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Malacañang announced Tuesday, September 1.

Secretary Eduardo Año confirmed the appointment. Cascolan previously hold the second highest position in the PNP as deputy chief for Administration and he was also appointed as  officer-in-charge upon PNP Chief Gen. Archie Gamboa retirement last Wednesday.

Año added that the President respects seniority and he view Coscolan as qualified for the position.

Coscolan will lead the 209,000 police personnel at the change of command ceremony at Crame today. He is expected to serve for two months as he will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56years old on November 10.

The DILG secretary expects the new PNP chief to ensure that people are secured and being protected during this coronavirus pandemic.

Cascolan, a member of the Philippine Military Academy class of 1986 will also be the 4th on his class to hold the highest police position right after Sen. Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa, Oscar Albayalde and Gamboa.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac welcomes the new appointment and said that the PNP Officers Corps has promised to “rally behind the leadership” of the new PNP Chief. Banac also said that with the exit of Gamboa, the momentum habs been established for the next leader to push forward for more productive and effective service in the Police.
