It was a sunlight fading evening, the playing XI Sri Lanka with a proud face with a heavy heart they sended off their legendary team mate ‘Angelo Mathews’ whose 16 years of test career ended at the first test match against Bangladesh. The result of this match can be a draw, but while looking at the history of his career there are en number of moments where his tremendous contribution took his team to the winning side. He is mastered in both batting and bowling in all the three formats of cricket. So he received the ‘Guard of Honour’ during his final match at Galle. 

What is “Guard of Honour”?

Life is a perfect circle which you will realise during the crucial and emotional moments of an individual’s life. Today, Angelo Mathew has been honored with the “Guard of Honour” by his team and the others who took part in the test game. And most importantly at this Galle stadium he debuted his first test match against Pakistan in 2009 (Scored 69 runs and 2 wickets at the end of the two innings). 

Guard of Honour is a tribute by standing in two lines by facing each other and creating a pathway. And the player will be walking through them till the corridor and the whole crowd, even their opponents will pour wishes by applause and appreciation out of respect and love. 

His absence in the test cricket will always be looked as an irreplaceable void yet his wishes and unwavering support will always aid his team to achieve greater in the future.
