Former Magistrate of Yilan County Lin Zimiao has been Sentenced to 2.5 years of Imprisonment

On December 31, the Yilan District Court gave a verdict of two and a half years of imprisonment to the Former Magistrate of Yilan County Lin Zimioa at 2.30pm. After the trial, Lin told the media that “Judiciary has been hijacked by politics”. Along with the imprisonment she is fined NT$1 million and for five years she has been barred from the holdings of public office.

What are the allegations against Lin Zimioa?

  • The primary accusation is bribery and illegal money laundering. She was accused of receiving bribes from the contractors during her tenure.
  • In exchange for that bribe she awarded them lucrative public construction contracts.
  • The indictments also stated that she influenced the bidding process in favour of the contractors from whom she received money.
  • It is reported that to conceal her illegal actions she had falsified the official documents.
  • In the end, it is mentioned that she has been involved in unethical practices by prioritizing her personal benefits over the public interest.

“Taiwan’s judiciary has been kidnapped by politics. Without asking the facts or looking at the evidence, they can be accused of unfounded crimes. This time justice is late, but I believe it will never be absent, please my favorite Dear county citizens, we will continue to fight hand in hand with Zimiao and look forward to the day when justice will come” said the disappointed Former Magistrate of Yilan County Lin Zimioa after coming out of the trial.

She also commented on the prosecutor about whom she told that they didn’t allow her to prove her innocence but was falsely accused of money laundering with improper evidence.

“This is simply a premeditated frame-up by the anti-corruption unit, which is proven by the court records”, she added.
