Following the central government imposes a ban against homecoming traveling, or called “mudik”, state-owned railway operator PT KAI overseeing the operation area 1 in Jakarta will stop all departures and arrivals in both of their long-distance and local trains. It will be starting on Friday, April 24, in an attempt to break the coronavirus chain.

The trains from city destined for popular “mudik” areas such as Bandung, Cirebon, Tegal, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Solo, Surabaya, Malang, and many more regions in the Java Island will no longer available.
In its entirety, 70 trips departing from the operational area will be canceled. For local trips, there will be 31 that canceled.
Customers that have purchased train fares are also offered three options to cancel their trips by receiving a full refund by contacting PT KAI’s contact center, cancel it themselves via the KAI Access app, or through the ticket boxes in the aforementioned train stations.
Earlier, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has officially decided to extend the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) protocol imposed in the capital city up to 28-days. Because the 14-day PSBB not fully effective yet. The second phase of Jakarta’s PSBB will take effect from April 24 up to May 22.
“We have decided to extend the Jakarta PSBB,” said Anies Baswedan in Wednesday’s press conference held at City Hall.
Phase 1 Jakarta PSBB that took effect from April 10 – April 23 attracted much criticism due to its ineffectiveness in breaking the chain of coronavirus (COVID-19) transmission. The lack of law enforcement is said becomes one of the problems in containing people in their homes.
Therefore, Anies Baswedan said that the Jakarta PSBB phase 2 will prioritize two crucial aspects; sanctioning violators both common residents and corporations that do not adhere to the social restriction protocol.
Anies said the city administration with the help of Jakarta Metro Police and Regional Military Command will tighten the supervision of the policy implementation which will be effective until May 22, 2020.
