MANILA – Hidilyn Diaz continues to ramp up her preparations for the remaining qualifiers on the Tokyo Olympics, setting a personal record in backs squats.
The 2016 Olympic silver medalist lifted a personal record of 161 kilograms in back squat to show how she’s serious she is in staying in form amid the rescheduleding of the Olympics due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Diaz, its been 10 months since she lifted a weight this heavy and this will be her lifetime PR in the back squat at 161KG.
the 29-year-old olympian also captured the gold in the 30th Southeast Asian Games last December here.
The world no. 5 weightlifter is now shift her focus in her bid for a fourth straight Olympic appearance in the hopes of capturing the elusive first gold of the Philippines. Diaz also thanked her coaches, the Philippine Sports Commission and the MVP Sports Foundation in the support they’re providing to help her stay in shape despite not being in the country.
