'I am Solo' is becoming a cultural sensation in South Korea
The land of Korean dramas is full of heart-fluttering romance and protagonists seeming impossibly perfect. There is a reality dating series that has become a cultural sensation in the country as it likes to keep things absolutely real.
‘I am Solo’ feels more like a mirror to the messy and practical realities of modern romance. First aired in 2021, it has featured nearly 300 contestants and its popularity doesn’t seem to be dropping. Each series, 7 male and 7 female contestants meet, date and decide.
This series is quite different from its other rather polished counterparts such as ‘Single’s Inferno’s on Netflix. ‘I am Solo’ also doesn’t cast just influencers or gym-sculpted models. The cast feels strikingly familiar – people you might encounter in your social circles.
In this series, many contestants had no prior dating experience. The people – mostly in their 30s – are required to face the same realities as many South Koreans, such as family expectations and career goals. Keep an eye out for more details.
