IIHF Asia Cup: India clinches their first ever medal in Ice-Hockey but hardly celebrated in the country!

It is a proud moment for India and the people who celebrate all kinds of sports, especially the national game of the nation. In the history of hockey in India, the Women’s team has clinched their first ever medal in IIHF for Ice Hockey. Along with five other nations India took part and played against them all. This historical record has been etched due to their consistent gritty and determined performances in the tournament.

Silent Struggle Behind this Monumental Victory

India arrived at this greatest point through the years of steady progress but there are many invisible hurdles of these women that must come into the spotlight of the world. The women’s team had their training on seasonal ice rinks that lack a round infrastructure with minimal support from both the government and media. It really breaks our heart when their equipment is donated by the volunteers who wished to support these girls and their passion.

The ice-hockey is widely popular in the regions of Himalayan belt, so they have to be dependent on the local coaches and some of the occasional foreign volunteers for the training. Breaking all the barriers with the constant support that they received from their family, international coaches and community support they seized their landmark victory in IIHF Asia Cup 2025.

The win and the cherishable moment went unnoticed in India since the game is at the margins of mainstream sports. Yet,

“This bronze medal is not just a medal of honour but a symbol of their unparalleled spirit and dedication for the game”.
