The Indonesian rock climbing team presented a high level of performance at the ASEAN Climbing Championship 2025, in Putrajaya, Malaysia. These young sportsmen returned with a mouthwatering haul of five gold medals, indicating the strength that Indonesia is developing in the field of rock climbing sports in Southeast Asia.
This is a history in rock climbing that proves the acumen of the Indonesian sportsmen in competition in the top ASEAN games. Indonesian climbers dominated the lead and boulder disciplines, leading to Indonesians winning the championship that was held between Friday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6, 2025.
Final Day: Three More Gold Medals for Indonesian Rock Climbing
The last day of the ASEAN rock climbing championship turned out as the most successful one for Indonesia because three more gold medals were added to their tally. The victories were achieved by outstanding performances in youth and open categories.
The first gold medal of the final day of the competition went to Indonesia courtesy of Alma Ariella Tsany, who dominated the women’s lead youth category. Her 50-point score was enough to get rid of Thailand Natcha Suplorased, who reached 37+ points but won the silver medal. The SFCC (Singapore) player, Sofia Xiao Menghan, had the same score as the Thai competitor but lost by record time.
Nur Ismatul Sakdia won the second gold medal in the women’s boulder open category. Her perfected climbing ability awarded her 39.1 points, just above that of Vanessa Ting Si Yin of Singapore, who had received 39.0 points. Thailand was represented by Puntakara Tunyavanich, who took third place at 19.9 points.
Ardana Cikal Damarwulan made the hat-trick complete in Indonesia by clinching the men’s lead youth category. To be able to surpass two other formidable representatives of Singapore, Mitchell Charles Boyer Hai Jie 27 points, and Dylan Seow Yong Kang 25+ points, his 27+ score was barely adequate.
Indonesian Rock Climbing Stars and Their Achievements
Five Filipino rock climber athletes were there to represent Indonesia at this prestigious ASEAN championship. Mahesa Caesar, Muhamad Ramzi Firmansyah, Ardana Cikal Damarwulan, Alma Ariella Tsany and Nur Ismatul Sakdia are the participants in the dedication.
Before the last day, Indonesia had already won two gold medals. Mahesa Caesar was the champion of the men’s lead open category, whereas Ardana Cikal Damarwulan was the runner-up of the men’s youth boulder category, which proves his versatility in other types of rock climbing techniques.
The success of the Indonesian rock climbing team was not captured by the gold medals alone. The country also won one bronze and one silver medal, hence raising their total medal count to seven. This haul was a record score and enabled Indonesia as one of the leading performing countries during the ASEAN rock climbing championship.
These youngsters were among the athletes who participated in two disciplines of rock climbing, namely lead climbing and boulder climbing.
