Originally from Hong Kong, martial arts artist Jackie Chan has been chosen to represent the Paris Paralympics, therefore displaying his ongoing worldwide relevance. Just hours before the much expected opening ceremony, Chan, 70 years old and well-known for his bold stunts and spectacular war scenes, will carry the Paralympic flame across Paris on Wednesday afternoon. Apart from revealing this, the Paris 2024 Organising Committee also disclosed that Chan would be accompanying famous torch relay participants French actress Elsa Zylberstein and well-known dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied.
Like the Olympics before it, the Paralympics will begin with an incredible display outside the usual Stade de France restrictions. The event will be a wonderful procession down the well-known Champs-Elysees concluding at the Place de la Concorde in the midst of Paris, not a stadium-bound party. Reflecting the inclusive ethos of the Paralympics, this site choice acknowledges Paris’s rich history and culture and delivers the thrill of the Games right to the public.
The Road the Flame Runs
The Paralympic torch started its trip Saturday at Stoke Mandeville, UK, a venue of enormous importance for the Games. After Channel Tunnel passage, the torch landed on Sunday with really great force in France. Wheelchair fencing medalist Emmanuelle Assmann brought the same will and power the Paralympics displayed. Underlining the significance of the custom here to pick up the torch, President of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee Tony Estanguet and French sports minister Amelie Oudea-Castera
Engineering the Flame All Around France
The Paralympic torch will be “multiplied” into twelve individual flames, each designed to transit via different French cities, not one. One thousand torchbearers will carry these twelve fires and distribute the Paralympic attitude almost fifty different towns with twelve simultaneous relays. This artistic method ensures a big audience for the Paralympic message, therefore encouraging inclusion and the celebration of sports among individuals with disabilities.
All twelve flames will arrive on Wednesday in Paris at last converging in time for the great show. Combining adversaries with supporters from all throughout France and the world, this symbolic confluence emphasizes the friendship and common goal of the Paralympic movement. Leading the way in an event relevant globally, Jackie Chan and his fellow torchbearers will launch what appears to be an incredible and unforgettable Paralympic Games in Paris.
The Paris Paralympics seek to encourage people with disabilities in value of sports as well as in athletic ability. Global superstars like Jackie Chan make sure the event will encourage a global audience to be intrigued, therefore advancing the Paralympic goals of inclusiveness, endurance, and excellence.
