Japanese Airline Delivers Bags to Your Doorstep to ease Tokyo Crowd

For a cost of 4,500 yen (about USD 29) per suitcase, Japan Airlines has introduced a same-day luggage delivery service that allows international travelers arriving at Terminal 3 of Haneda Airport to have their belongings delivered directly to their hotels. With the exception of delays caused by bad weather or traffic, the airline guarantees to deliver the luggage the same day.

The new service aims to ease jams on Tokyo’s public transportation systems while giving passengers a more convenient and pleasurable arrival experience. The passenger can arrive at the airport and can just start roaming the city without carrying the bags all over the city till to their hotels.

“The ‘Baggage-Free’ travel service from Haneda Airport aims to address social issues such as congestion in public transportation and the shortage of storage lockers, providing a more convenient travel experience for tourists,” the airline said.

The service is accessible to both Japanese citizens and non-JAL passengers in addition to foreign visitors. It can only be used for hotel drop-offs though and not for private homes, Airbnbs, rented apartments or any other kind of accommodation.

Same day delivery is available to guests staying at hotels in 14 distinct districts including Shinjuku, Shinagawa, Chiyoda, Chuo, Minato, Koto, Ota, Shibuya, Taito, Toshima, Bunkyo, Sumida, Meguro and Edogawa.

Passengers on JAL will receive 50 frequent flyer points when they utilize this benefit. The service is available every day in the Haneda Airport Terminal 3 arrivals hall from 4 am to 6 pm.

Japan has struggled with overtourism ever since it reopened during the epidemic. Japan welcomed 3.2 million visitors in July which is around 66% more than the country saw in 2023, according to the Japanese National Tourism Organization. The Japanese government anticipates that this year’s 32 million tourists will be exceeded.
