Kuok Hui Kwong Takes Over as CEO of Shangri-La Asia Hotel Chain

Kuok Hui Kwong, who is the daughter of the Malaysian billionaire, Robert Kuok, was appointed the new C.E.O. of Shangri-La Asia, which is one of the largest hotel firms in Asia. On 1st August, Kuok Hui Kwong was appointed as the new CEO of the luxurious hotel chain, which signalled a major change in its leadership. This decision is meant to amalgamate her current position as chairman with the chief executive officer job to form a harmonised structure of leadership, as spearheaded by Kuok Hui Kwong.

Kuok Hui Kwong’s Background and New Role

Kuok Hui Kwong is a 47-year-old sixth child of Robert Kuok out of eight children. She is since June 2016 on the board of Shangri-La Asia as an executive director and became chairman in January 2017. However, after she was appointed in the new post of CEO, Kuok Hui Kwong will take charge of strategic planning as well as the day-to-day running of the hotel empire.

The company thinks that Kuok Hui Kwong as the chairman and chairman of the company will help to generate a better working team and better operations. It is believed that this dual role will make all components of the business collaborate in the same vision and objectives.

As the CEO, Kuok Hui Kwong will build a monthly salary of HK$576,000 (approximately $94,300), an amount she will receive in the form of bonus payments and pension schemes. She also holds approximately 95.57 million shares at Shangri-La Asia, and the percentage that comes under the entire company is 2.7.

Kuok Hui Kwong boasts of a Harvard degree in East Asian studies. Before her joining the family hotel business, she was the managing director and CEO of SCMP Group, which prints the South China Morning Post newspaper. She is a recognised leader at the global level – the 40th place in the 2024 list of the most powerful women in Asia has been included in the list of Fortune.
