On 1st August, Kuok Hui Kwong was appointed as the new CEO of the luxurious hotel chain, which signalled a major change in its leadership. Kuok Hui Kwong is a 47-year-old sixth child of Robert Kuok out of eight children. She is since June 2016 on the board of Shangri-La Asia as an executive director and became chairman in January 2017. However, after she was appointed in the new post of CEO, Kuok Hui Kwong will take charge of strategic planning as well as the day-to-day running of the hotel empire.

As the CEO, Kuok Hui Kwong will build a monthly salary of HK$576,000 (approximately $94,300), an amount she will receive in the form of bonus payments and pension schemes.
