Lakers Eyeing Kristaps Porzingis as Potential Big 3 Addition with LeBron and Doncic

On April 6, 2025, the Los Angeles Lakers won 126-99 against the OKC Thunder, proving their qualities and highlighting their lack of backup players in power positions. LeBron James and Luka Doncic‘s partnership gives the Lakers a good chances to acquire Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis next season.

Ever since the Lakers traded for Luka Doncic from Dallas in early 2025, they have experienced weaknesses in both defensive and offensive play near the basket. The team acquired shooting talent, but the move made them weak in key championship requirements. Porzingis stands as an excellent potential choice for the Boston Celtics because of his various abilities on the court.

The 7-foot-2 Latvian big man is averaging impressive numbers in the 2024-25 season:

His skills as a shooter from deep range, plus rim defense plus pick-and-roll passing, help him fit perfectly with Doncic and James. He performs many duties that enhance our team requirements right now. Securing Porzingis won’t be simple. To acquire Porzingis next season the Lakers must put together several teams exchanging future picks and expiring contracts for their $30 million salary. A third team that acquires Los Angeles’s salary fillers would complete this potential framework.

The biggest threat to Porzingis’s future success is his previous injuries. His shredded medial retinaculum and calf strain problem forced him to play just seven postseason games during the past season. When he is at full strength, Porzingis shows his ability to help the team win games. The Lakers team management needs to secure Porzingis financially and believe in his potential health to achieve championship status while helping LeBron reach peak performance.
