What are the two Malaysian Airlines suspended their flights to India and Pakistan and why?

If you are planning to fly via Malaysian Airlines or booked any of your travel through India or any of the cities of Pakistan then here is the update. A update has been shared by the two airlines of Malaysia – Malaysian Airlines and Batik Air has suspended their flights that were planned to fly via the cities of India’s Amritsar and Pakistan’s Lahore respectively. This decision has been made after the announcement of closure of Amritsar Airport from 7-9 May 2025.

“We will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure safe and reliable operations” – Malaysian Airlines

Following the closure of Pakistan’s Airspace, two of the flights of Malaysian Airlines including MH2 and MH22 has been re-routed. Meanwhile, Batik Air announced the suspension of their flights of the following for 7 and 8 May 2025.

  • Kuala Lumpur (KUL) – Lahore (LHE): Flight OD131 on May 7 and 8 (5.35pm local time)
  • Lahore (LHE) – Kuala Lumpur (KUL): Flight OD132 on May 7 and 8 (9.35pm local time)
  • Kuala Lumpur (KUL) – Amritsar (ATQ): Flight OD271 on May 7 (6.40pm local time)
  • Amritsar (ATQ) – Kuala Lumpur (KUL): Flight OD272 on May 7 (11.05pm local time)

What is the reason?

A cold rift is going on between the two nations India and Pakistan after the merciless attack on the civilians of India by the terrorists who came from Pakistan. Late Tuesday, Indian Armed Force successfully executed the missile attack which was termed as ‘Operation Sindoor’ and destroyed the nine sites of terrorist camps located in Pakistan. This sparked a cross-border aggression between the two nations and concerns around the world.
