Everyone is in need of ingredients for their daily food and their other benefits in living their life. One of these is Palm oil. As we all know it’s a vegetable oil edible from the fruit of oil palm tree pulp. The oil palm tree is native to West Africa and is now most widely cultivated in Southeast Asian tropics.
In fact, it’s the most widely produced vegetable oil in the world and includes many food items, cosmetics and biofuels in a wide variety of products.
Palm oil production is controversial too since oil palm plantations take the place of thousands of acres of mowed-down forests, rendering palm oil production one of the main deforestation engines. On the other side, production of palm oil provides employment for millions of people, and is an important natural resource in areas of the world where economies are struggling.
In view of this, Malaysia the second producer of palm oil find WHO’s advice outdated for advising adults to avoid palm oil during COVID-19 outbreak and use alternatives such as olive oil in their diet.
In a recent advisory, the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office reported that citizens should consume unsaturated fats found in fish, avocado, nuts, olive oil, soya, canola, sunflower and maize oils instead of saturated fats contained in fatty meat, butter, palm and coconut oils, milk and cheese.
Morever, the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office of the WHO did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the status of the MPOC.
The MPOC article claimed that palm oil has a natural balance of saturated and unsaturated fats to ensure that different dietary micronutrients are absorbed, does not need hydrogenation-treating hydrogen oils to improve their shelf life-and is available in large quantities.
Because of this, Kalyana stated that the World Health Organization would concentrate on “radically new concepts for health policy” instead of “outdated opinions.” Since the world is facing a pandemic virus and knowing that palm oil are cheaper than others, it’s expected that consumers will choose this over others and same with manufacturers since it’s easy to accomodate this, they will produce even more.
