Marvel Brings Out a Star-Cast for Its Next Avengers Film

After waiting for a solid six years, Marvel Studios has divulged its next Avengers movie—Avengers: Doomsday. And the cast is nothing short of legendary.

In what was a huge announcement made on Wednesday, fans were pretty taken aback by the sudden comeback of two of the most iconic names in superhero cinema: Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. To round out the crew, the film, which is set for release in May 2026, will have such beloved repeat protagonists as Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth.

For the record, the news was broken in a five-hour-long viral video that created tension for fans on the edge until names were revealed individually. Hollywood-style directors’ chairs were lined up, each with the name of an actor, and the camera would dramatically pan over the chairs with a neat effect toward the next one. At the end of it all? Directly from Robert Downey Jr. himself.

A Superhero Spectacle Like No Other

The Avengers franchise from Marvel remains the biggest money-greaser at the Hollywood box office, with a collection of over $30 billion. If the standards set by Avengers: Endgame (2019) were not nearly insurmountable, as this one grossed $2.8 billion and briefly held the record for the highest-grossing film of all time-Doomsday has a tall order to fulfill.

Like Endgame, the next film promises to be a huge crossover event, wrapping up storylines and bringing together all heroes, along with some villains. Along with Stewart and McKellen, confirmed returning stars will include:

Chris Hemsworth would appear as Thor.

But the biggest of all surprises? Robert Downey Jr. will not pick up the role of Iron Man but instead play the evil Doctor Doom.

The Road to Doomsday

None of Marvel’s films since Endgame have been able to capture the same kind of magic; honestly considered poorly with decreasing box office results. However, one thing the new announcement does tell us is that this looks like Doomsday is going to be a huge comeback moment.

With plenty of money on the line for Disney and Marvel on this one- and its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, in 2027-it looks like, if the reaction to Wednesday’s reveal (with almost 4 million views in the first seven hours) is any indication, fans are ready for this next chapter.

As Marvel hinted in their announcement, “It all leads to Doom.”

Let the countdown begin!
