PETALING JAYA – The Malaysian government’s choice to only allow “the head of the family” to buy the essential needs as part of measures to lessen the spread of Covid-19 had unintentional repercussions.
Some men are unexpectedly finding themselves in charge of the grocery store shopping and having difficulties on selecting confusing varieties of vegetables, spices and herbs.
Several men concurred, however, expressing their misery on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
There’s also a facebook post that was shared by more than 30,000 times that men shopping seemed like a “treasure hunt” bringing along their checklist and instructions of what to buy in the grocery.
“The real meaning of panic buying is when the partner as the head of the family needs to go and also purchase grocery stores by themselves. Adding to the panic is when the partner has actually never ever needed to acknowledge what ginger, galangal, turmeric extract, Chinese celery, springtime onions or chives are,” A man posted on twitter.
“Which is the celery! They all look the same!” said by another twitter user.
Fadillah, who is Works Minister, said last week that under the MCO, only one person (Which is the head of the family) is allowed to leave the house to get the basic necessities or medication.
