No travel restrictions in Tawau, Lahad Datu, says Police

TAWAU: The police have denied viral claims circulating on social media that they have imposed a travel ban on Tawau and Lahad Datu following the discovery of new covid-19 clusters in the two districts.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali denied that the information being circulated were true and that the police never received orders on the alleged travel ban.

Hazani said that the matter will be decided on a meeting with the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal today.

According to the information being disseminated, the message claimed that the Health Ministry issued a warning that workers will not be allowed to conduct business and personal travel in Tawau and Lahad Datu, effective immediately.

The new cluster of novel coronavirus case emerged in the two districts after a football referee tested positive for the disease.

All participant involved in a football competition at the Tawau Prison field and Tawau Municipal Council stadium will be subjected to COVID-19 screening. Malaysia currently has a total of 9,459 cases with 9,124 recoveries and 128 total fatalities.
