NTT Docomo Cyber Attack causes System Failure

On Thursday from around 5.30 am, NTT Docomo, the telecommunication service of Japan is dealing with the system failure due to a cyber attack carrying a large amount of data which makes the other functions of the network work properly.

NTT Docomo announced that the cyber attack on their system is not easy to recover quickly. The pivotal functions of the system which includes the payment service ‘payment’, company’s search site “goo”, and email service ‘OCN’ are encountering a stratified issue to connect and work on it to recover.

Previously in 2023, a similar cyber attack took over the system of NTT Docomo by the ransomware group and demanded $1 million, followed by another attack which involved Sony and they demanded 240GB of data with a ransom amount. But it was not accepted by Sony.

The major causes for attacking the telecommunication services of Japan are,

  • Disruption of infrastructure which is responsible for a nation’s economic stability, & security
  • The highly sensitive data of telecom can aid the cybercriminals to steal the information and utilise the profit from the black markets
  • This cyber attack can predominantly affect the interconnected industries of Japan
  • To break the strong economy of Japan and highly advanced businesses due to raising geo-politics
