PETALING JAYA – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on wednesday the Pakatan Harapan (Alliance of Hope) coalition nominated him to be candidate for prime minister.

Anwar confirmed that the decision was made by the Pakatan presidential council on Tuesday. People’s Justice Party (PKR) members also backs him as the country’s next leader.

“They (presidential council) had invited Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to host the meeting to recover the Pakatan Government but did not agree to attend the said meeting. Therefore the presidential council decided that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be the prime minister candidate.

“We will not betray this mandate of commitment of the people to bring the country to a greater direction in terms of the economy, politics and society.” he told reporters at a press conference. The Port Dickson MP urged all parties and should wait for the King’s decision on the matter.
