This August, something profound is taking place as three of the most hailed cultural organizations in the Philippines team up to create something new. Ballet Philippines, Repertory Philippines, and Manila Symphony Orchestra come together to deliver a magical act of performance as a fantasy double bill where Peter and the Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood take place at Theatre Solaire on August 1-3, 2025.
It is the first collaboration of these three leading institutions ever, and the only spectacular event where the combination of world-class ballet performances, live music performed by an orchestra, and dramatic narration will take place.
The most prominent piece of this Ballet Philippines 56th season opener is the all-time favorite Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, where every personality is brought out by a certain set of instruments in the orchestra. This traditional story will be performed by the Manila Symphony Orchestra and the role of the bird will be played by flute, the role of the duck will be played by the oboe, the role of the cat will be played by the clarinet, the role of the grandfather will be played by the bassoon, the role of the wolf will be played by the horns, the role of Peter will be played by the strings.
Coupled with this musical masterpiece, the audience will view the ballet favourite, Little Red Riding Hood, with music composed by Camille Saint-Saens and Edvard Grieg. It is a reimagined version of a classic fairy tale by Charles Perrault, but these Ballet Philippines performers made it a tale of exploring the power of kindness.
The best part of this opening of the 56th season of Ballet Philippines is its community orientation. The three organizations are also giving free access to a family living within the chosen barangays, so that those underserved communities will have access to this powerful Peter and the Wolf performance at Theatre Solaire.
This initiative is beyond performance–it is about giving access, education, and providing a role model effect on the next generation, explained the leaders of the three institutions. Our mission is to ignite a lifetime fascination with the arts as well as to enable participation in cultural activities by all people.
The general, regular premiere tickets are still available with TicketWorld, Solaire Box Office, and REP. The proceeds of the ticket sales are used to promote and extend the impact of future outreach programs in a way that can also make this Ballet Philippines season opener a celebration as well as a community investment.
It is a major event in Philippine history of Philippine performing arts shows as it ran in five performances. With Repertory Philippines as its millennial retelling of its all-time, theatrical storytelling capacity, the creativity of Ballet Philippines in its breathtaking rendition of movements, and the musicality of Manila Symphony Orchestra in providing live concert music, this Peter and the Wolf will be entertaining, educating, and uplifting the audience of all ages.
