Philippines being hit by Typhoon Carina(Gaemi) and Southwest Monsoon Winds, impacts work and connectivity…

Typhoon Carina(Gaemi) and Southwest monsoon winds brought heavy rain on Wednesday, July 2024, to Manila, the capital of the Philippines region and the northern provinces of the country. The rain was so havoc that it halted work and school including the stock and foreign trade exchanges. 

The Presidential office suspended classes at all academic classes and work in most government offices in the Manila region consisting of 16 cities and 13 million people. 

The cyclone with a maximum sustained winds of 155 kmph and gusty winds of 190 kmph was heading towards Taiwan, the Philippines’ state weather agency reported at the 5 am bulletin.

The Phillipines’ state weather agency, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released a statement saying, “Flooding and induced landslides are likely”. The storm did not make landfall but is enhancing heavy to intense rainfall in the Northern Philippines region. 

Two tropical storms hit the southern Philippines, typhoon Carina(Gaemi) and typhoon Butchoy(Prapiroon), causing floods in the region and taking up the casualty to 7 deaths.

13 airlines were cancelled today, Manila’s airport authority said while the Philippines coast guard released a statement saying 354 passengers and 31 maritime vessels were stranded in sea ports due to this weather phenomenon. 

The country sees an average of 20 tropical storms every year causing a number of floods and landslides that result in a lot of human casualties along with loss of property.
