KUALA LUMPUR –  All gatherings – including international meetings, sports, social and religious events  will be cancelled in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

PM Muhyiddin Yassin said the measure will be imposed until April 30 and will be reviewed if the situation improves.

“I hope that the Islamic religious authorities in all the states will also release guidelines in accordance with advisories from the Health Ministry,” he said.

The government, on the other hand, is working to add hospitals accomodating Covid-19 cases in anticipation of a spike in the coming days.

The country currently now has 197 Covid-19 cases. Over 26 government hospitals and a university hospital have the capacity to handle Covid-19 related cases while 57 government hospitals and health clinics nationwide are ready to conduct screenings for those with Covid-19 symptoms.

22 labs under the Health Ministry, Defence Ministry and the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry were also tapped to conduct Covid-19 tests. Muhyiddin also encouraged Malaysians not to travel to Hubei, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in China as well as Hokkaido in Japan, Italy, Iran and South Korea where there is an outbreak of the virus.
