OTT platforms are becoming inevitable in our routine life, because we need an off or a break which is well-spent with quality entertainment. This has led to the boom of diverse ott platforms across the world. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO, and Disney+ are some of the front runners in the streaming industry both globally and in the Asian regions for their quality contents.
Amazon Prime Video is wrapped with a number of movies, web series that were originally under their production and also the others that are available in various languages. Even though their initial/basic subscription gives access to many contents, some of the significant movies are made available for additional payment as a rent. This has been bothering the Indian users from the day they subscribe to.
And today an announcement is revealed by Amazon Prime Video regarding their new subscription plan for the Indian users, which states that from 17 June 2025 the users will encounter ads/commercials in-between the content. This is included for their revenue purposes. But if the users wish for an ad-free content they can switch to their new ad-free plan.
So, the users can pay this additional amount for ad-free content. This new update has further disappointed the subscribers because this is the only platform who cater the users with restricted contents even after subscribing. India led the market of Prime Video in Asia with the highest subscribers of 65.9 million which is followed by Japan 16.2 million, initially. The disappointments encountered by the users that are mentioned previously are the reasons for the fall of subscribers in India.
Their new plan again sparked the talks and dissatisfaction among the users in India. As per the speculations that are circulated around, this ad-free subscription might be implemented in the other regions of Asia too. So, there are many possibilities of downfall in the market of Amazon Prime Video for their expensive subscription plan. Because the mode of watching an international movie are made available in a feasible way and even for free at certain platforms.
