RU Withdraws Ward Quota in Entry Test
The Pro Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University (RU), Dr.Farid Uddin Khan has declared the decision of withdrawing the ward quota in the entrance test after a meeting which is held on Sunday. Based on the given information, the ward quota has been deducted from 4% to 3% in 2024 after the protest of the RU students demanding the abolition of the quota completely since September 2024. But it seems to be dissatisfied with the demands laid by students’ protest once again and the quota had been reverted to 1% with a press release on January 1, 2025.
The rage of students broke out and it led to the 12 hours of tough protests by the RU students and they also locked the administrative building with hundreds of University staff within the building. The irrepressible protest of the students succeeded and it forced the VC to announce his decision of abolishing the ward quota.
“Today, a meeting of the admission committee and sub-admission committee was held, and the decision to abolish the ward quota was upheld. Previously, students had been demanding the abolition of the ward quota since September last year. As a result, the university administration decided to reduce the ward quota from 4% to 3%. However, the students rejected this decision and began protesting…. Consequently, the Vice Chancellor was compelled to announce the complete abolition of the ward quota that night” said Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr.Farid Uddin.
“The initial application process for admission to the first-year undergraduate program of the 2024-25 academic session at Rajshahi University (RU) will begin on January 27. It will start at 12pm on Monday and continue until 11.59pm, on February 5.” he added.
