son heung min bids farewell

In a heartfelt press conference in Seoul on Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min from South Korea announced that he is going to leave the club this summer after 10 years of remarkable performance and great memories.

He described the move as “the most difficult decision I have made in my career”, sitting beside Spurs manager Thomas Frank as emotions ran high. This announcement is making global headlines and many football fans are unable to believe it.

The 33-year-old Son recalled landing in England from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 at the age of just 23 – so young and inexperienced. He has made 454 appearances across all competitions, possibly the 7th highest in the history of the club.

UEFA Europa League: Tottenham clinch first major trophy in 17 years

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min noted at the press conference in South Korea: “I need a little bit of change – 10 years is a long time. I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old, such a young age.”

Under his leadership, Spurs clinched their first major trophy in 17 years, defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final held in Bilbao on May 21, 2025. Such a beautiful and intriguing match, isn’t it?

Son’s contract at Tottenham Hotspur runs until 2026. From a quite inexperienced footballer in 2015 to a global icon in 2025, Son Heung-min’s legacy transcends statistics and borders. He is a beacon for Asian football globally.
