Tax season 2025: Let’s make filing taxes easier

The IRS has started the 2025 tax filing season from Monday, a couple of days earlier than last year. There are some changes and an expansion of the Direct File programme. More than 30 million people are expected to be eligible for the programme across 25 states.

Direct File is mobile-friendly. During the 2024 filing season, the programme helped users save an estimated $5.6 million in tax prep fees, according to the Treasury Department. More than 140,000 taxpayers used the option. Direct File is accessible in both English and Spanish.

The bigger picture is that the 2025 tax season is likely to see lesser taxes and bigger refunds. Tax adjustments, such as an increased standard deduction and other tax inflation adjustments, are going to reduce income taxes for thousands of taxpayers.The IRS has noted that it issues most refunds in less than 21 calendar days. This year, the agency is also sending out $2.4 billion in stimulus payments. These special payments are as high as $1,400 person and should reach you by late January in most cases.
