On Sunday, August 6, Thai golfer Nitithorn Thippong won the Mandiri Indonesia Open in a spectacular display of talent and tenacity. Nitithorn won his third Asian Tour victory at the Pondok Indah Golf Course in Jakarta, Indonesia, after regaining the form that had made him one of the most promising young players in the region.
The 26-year-old golfer, affectionately known as “Fever,” persevered through a difficult first half of the season but found his footing when it counted. He emphasised his joy and confidence in his game after finishing the final round with an even-par 72 by saying, “I feel delighted about this win, you know. I haven’t felt this confident in a few weeks. Honestly, I didn’t think I would win this year, but I still intended to keep striving for excellence.
Nitithorn’s outstanding performance on the Indonesian leg of the Asian Tour earned him a well-deserved $90,000 award. Scott Hend of Australia, Steve Lewton of England, and Lee Chieh-po of Chinese Taipei all finished just two strokes behind him overall after shooting outstanding four-under-par 68s in the final round, giving them tough competition.
Lewton and Lee each had opportunities to overtake Nitithorn in the last round, but they failed to take advantage of pivotal opportunities. Even yet, Lee expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, saying, “I am delighted with the result. When we left today, I didn’t think I had a chance.
A notable performance by South Korean Yongjun Bae, who tied for fifth place with fellow countryman Mingyu Cho, Thai Pavit Tangkomolprasert, and Chinese Taipei’s Chang Wei-lung, including breaking the course record with a final round nine-under-par 63.
The Mandiri Indonesia Open featured an exhilarating golf play and signalled Nitithorn Thippong’s comeback to the fore. The forthcoming International Series England in Newcastle, which starts on August 17th, promises to be another thrilling competition for golf fans worldwide as the Asian Tour continues.
