In the middle of a surge of coronavirus cases, Thailand’s government-held off ordering new national company shutdowns but allowed certain regional governors to set their own restrictions and pleaded with the public not to travel.

Thailand, which by mid-2020 had effectively contained the virus, saw the second round of outbreaks starting last month. It reported 315 new cases of coronavirus yesterday, the bulk of them due to local transmission, taking its total to 7,694 cases and 64 deaths since the first case last January.

Recently, Samut Sakhon, a province south of Bangkok where the latest epidemic began, confirmed 541 extra cases. That number, the health official said, will be added to the official count today.

Dr Yong Poovorawan, a senior virologist from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, said in a post on his social media account that the country has confirmed the first documented case of a more infectious form of the coronavirus called B.1.1.7 recently.

The variant was identified in a family of four who were in quarantine after returning from Britain in Thailand, but Dr. Yong said there is no chance of transmitting the variant in Thailand.

Opas Karnkawinpong, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, said the Health Ministry had proposed that the government ban all flights from Britain until more information on the new strain is available.

The latest domestic epidemic is related to illicit border migration from neighboring Myanmar. Morever, Opas Karnkawinpong, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, said the Ministry of Health had proposed that the government ban all flights from Britain until further information on the new strain is available.

The present domestic epidemic is related to illicit border movement from neighboring Myanmar. The government has classified as high-risk areas 28 provinces, including Bangkok, urging the suspension of some industries and crowded operations.

Consequently, New regulations have also been issued by several ministries and agencies.

In fact, both public and private schools and vocational training centres have been ordered by the Ministry of Education to close from today until the end of the month.

A statement shared the Thai Retailers Association has declared that all shopping malls across the world could close at 9 pm daily, an hour earlier than the normal closing time. Recently, the Bangkok authorities had closed entertainment venues, nurseries, gyms and massage parlours, while leaving shopping centers, restaurants and public parks open.
