The Well-liked Taiwanese Romantic Novelist Chiung Yao dies of suicide

The literary world of Taiwan is shocked to witness the unexpected death of the prominent romantic novelist Chiung Yao. She was found dead at her house and it is reported that she died of suicide in a suspicious way. The exact cause which led her to this decision has not yet been revealed. She died at the age of 86 on December 4, 2024 in New Taipei City. Her son has unveiled a farewell note to the media which she has left before quitting her life.

Early Life

Chiung Yao was born in Chengdu, Republic of China on 20th April, 1938. Then, she moved to Taiwan in 1949 with her family due to the Chinese Civil War. 

Later life, literary world and achievements

After dropping out from the University, Chiung Yao gathered all her potential to commence her career in a creative field. Which led her to become an iconic figure in the field of Literature. The notable works of Chiung are “Outside the Window, Fantasies Behind the Pearly Curtains, Romance In Rain, The Plum the Rain and The Ghost Husband, My Fair Princess and more”. More than 100 of her works were adapted into feature films and TV Series in Taiwan language. More than six decades she has been contributing her creative and progressive notions to this literary world which had inspired many young writers after her. She detached from writing a few years ago, but she expressed her thoughts through social media. 

The loss of her husband Ping Hsin-tao, in 2019 at the age of 92 had left a huge impact over the internal emotions of Chiung Yao and many speculate that it could have turned this popular writer to quit her life.
