Tropical Depression ‘Rolly’ enters country today

MANILA – A Tropical depression still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility are expected to enter today, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The weather bureau confirmed that the storm will be given the local name “Rolly” and will be entering the country’s jurisdiction on Thursday morning or in the afternoon.

The storm will be the 18th typhoon to enter the country this year, following Typhoon Quinta that hit the  southern Luzon last week.

The tropical depression is located at 1,960 kilometers east of Central Luzon as of yesterday.

Rolly was seen slowly moving west northwest with max sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness up to 70 kph.

The tropical depression is expected to intensify in the next 24 hours while it moves over the Philippine sea and may reach a typhoon category before it landfall.

According to PAGASA’s forecast track, the typhoon is expected to move600 km east of Daet, Camarines Norte by Saturday morning and it will be 25 km west of Virac, Catanduanes and by Monday morning at 50 km West of Subic, Zambales. PAGASA weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said that Metro Manila including Baguio, Davao and Legazpi City will start to experience light to moderate rains by Saturday.
