Tsunoda’s Japanese Dream: Chasing a Podium After Red Bull Switch

Yuki Tsunoda has targeted a dream podium at his home Japanese Grand Prix following his surprise elevation to Red Bull. The 24 year old replaces Liam Lawson, who was axed after only two races of the Formula One season and will now compete alongside four time world champion Max Verstappen.

Tsunoda, promoted from Racing Bulls (RB), described the chance as unreal and conceded he never thought he would be racing for Red Bull at Suzuka. Overlooked when Sergio Perez left at the end of last season, he is now in an ideal position, thanks to impressive performances and a determination from his team.

In spite of never earning a podium in four complete F1 seasons, Tsunoda has been promising this year. He placed 12th in Melbourne and was unfortunate in Shanghai because of RB’s poor pit strategy. Unfazed by doubts over Red Bull’s car being tricky to drive, he said that it was very responsive during simulator runs.

With the Japanese fans in his corner, Tsunoda welcomes the pressure. “There couldn’t be a more difficult situation than this” he stated. “It’s also my debut, so it’s going to be an incredibly thrilling race.”

As Suzuka approaches, Tsunoda is set to make history. A podium finish at home would solidify his position as Japan’s next racing superstar.
