U-19 Women’s Asia Cup: Bangladesh Secure their Spot in “Super Four”

Cricket has emerged as one of the leading sports with a wider range of audiences and fans for both the men’s and women’s teams from various regions. In particular, Asian countries are promoting this game among the young bloods with natural skills and abilities.

The U-19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup is one of the prestigious tournaments conducted for the teams who hail from the six Asian Countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Nepal. The 2024 edition commenced on December 15 with two group stage matches at Kuala Lumpur which was organized by Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Today, the fifth match of the tournament between the Group B teams Bangladesh and Malaysia took place in Kuala Lumpur and it began with the toss won by Bangladesh Skipper Sumaiya Akter who chose to bat first. Initially, everyone had a second thought that Sumaiya should have opted for bowling when Bangladesh batters Fahomida, Sumaiya, Mosammat, Sumaiya Akter and Afia lost their wickets without delivering a powerful performance. Then came the star player Jannatul Maoua whose unbeaten innings of 45 helped the team’s scoreboard to look tough with 149/5 at the end.

Post the first batting the audience couldn’t find or witness a withstanding partnership from the team Malaysia and their top order fell quickly to the strategic spells of Bangladesh bowlers Nishita, Anisa, and Habiba who took 5,2, and 3 wickets each respectively. The all-round contributions of Bangladesh choked the Malaysian team to lose their wickets back to back for 29 runs.

Jannatul Maoua has been given the Player of the Match for her unbeaten 45 runs.

The humongous 120 runs victory of Bangladesh against the team Malaysia has uplifted their dream to lift the trophy of Under 19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup and they are determined to enter Super Four.
