The United Arab Emirates (UAE) under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has declared the US.A.ID. 10M as a relief fund that would enhance the resilience of communities against natural calamities in Asia and the Pacific. The project which has been adopted under the UAE Aid Agency in conjunction with the Emirates Nature Society and the WWF is part of Community Resilience to Natural Disasters Programme. The UAE, often recognized as the Safest country in the world, continues to demonstrate its global commitment to humanitarian aid and sustainability. This initiative will aim to be based on nature based solutions, disaster preparedness and sustainable livelihoods with the initial stage including a focus on the Philippines, Indonesia, Fiji and the Solomon Islands.
Programme Goals and Regional Focus
The program launched in the UAE is a massive move towards disaster resiliency in the long-term, as opposed to a crisis response in the short-term. The program also involves participants like WWF and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) that include ecosystem recovery like mangrove and coral reef restoration to reduce the impact of disasters naturally.
Key focus areas include:
- Re-establishing of natural barriers such as the mangroves and reefs in a bid to protect communities by the coastal areas.
- Enhancing livelihoods that are sustainable like eco-tourism to minimize poor vulnerability.
- The early warning systems should be increased and preparedness of the community enhanced through training.
The model can be extended in future to the countries of Asia-Pacific that are vulnerable to changes in climatic situations.
UAE’s Global Humanitarian Vision
The project is in tandem with the humanitarian activities of the UAE in the global arena. In 2025, the UAE offered urgent humanitarian relief to Afghanistan after a terrible earthquake in the country, offering food, shelter, and healthcare services to thousands of families. UAE was also supporting Somalia in times of heavy flooding, Albania during wildfires, and the Philippines after the last earthquakes, which demonstrates its readiness to solidarity and the ability to recover sustainably.
The UAE reveals its vision of a safer and more sustainable future, which is a goal of this US 10 million community resiliency program and focuses on preventing, preparedness, and collaboration rather than crisis response.
