
The UAE’s bilateral ties with the ASEAN countries are becoming more robust and to highlight that the mid-2023 foundation that was laid between UAE and Cambodia reinforces the comprehensive economic partnership between the two nations. Also, it aims to eliminate the barriers which were interrupting the flourishing trade that helps to promote the investment for deeper economic cooperation. In January 2024, it came into effect by covering the 92% of the tariff lines that promises the both the Cambodian exporters and the Emirati investors to explore the growing economic sectors in both the countries.
Impact of CEPA
The positive impact of CEPA began to reflect visibly, to take into consideration the trade volumes in non-oil sectors surged in high volume. Also the products from Cambodia which includes textiles, agricultural goods and electronics were able to enter into the UAE markets smoothly. And new footholds commenced to multiply for the Emirati investments and services in finance, health and logistics sectors.
Infrastructure & Port Development Plans
In 2025, the delegation from the UAE’s Abu Dhabi Ports visited the Ministry of Public Works & Transport of Cambodia and they expressed their strong interest in investing in Cambodia’s transport and infrastructure. Further, this interest perfectly aligned with the long term futuristic plan of Cambodia’s 174 projects which requires $36 billion funding, that is

- 23 river transport projects
- 20 maritime projects
- 10 air transport projects
- 15 gas pipeline projects
- 4 other initiatives
This could accelerate the ventures of port, warehouse logistics which are crucial for Cambodia. For the UAE, it is a diplomatic and a calculative move to establish themselves firmly in Southeast Asia by enhancing the connectivity, influence and long-term returns .
