Vietnam Logistics Day

The Ministry of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA), has officially proposed designating May 6 as Vietnam Logistics Day. The date was selected in celebration of a historical event: Decree No. 61, that was signed by President Ho Chi Minh on May 6, 1946, that formed the Supply Department, a forerunner of the modern logistics industry. The proposal aims to formally recognize the logistics sector as a critical component of the national economy, shifting the perception of logistics from a mere support activity to a high value-added service essential for Vietnam’s competitiveness.

Enhancing the Logistics Sector Role

Currently, Vietnam’s logistics sector contributes significantly to the GDP, yet it faces challenges such as high operational costs and fragmented infrastructure. By establishing a dedicated Vietnam Logistics Day, the government intends to create a focal point for policy dialogue, international cooperation, and infrastructure investment. The project aims at bringing resources to ensure the logistics costs are minimized to 11-12 percent of the GDP, which will increase competitiveness of the Vietnamese products in the international markets.

Strategic Goals for Vietnam Logistics Day

The May 6 proposal is not just symbolic; it aligns with the national strategy to develop a smart, green, and modern supply chain by 2035. This yearly celebration will stimulate companies to embrace digital transformation and enhance human resource training. Ultimately, Vietnam Logistics Day will serve as a platform to honor the workforce and connect logistics enterprises with manufacturing and import-export industries, fostering a more integrated economic ecosystem.
