Vietnam, Russia boost bilateral cooperation

HANOI – Top diplomats from Vietnam and Russia pledged here on Friday, May 29 to strengthen ties and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a phone conversation and discussed the deepened comprehensive strategic partnership by agreeing to continue coordinating the external activities of their high-ranking leaders and enhance the cooperation in the framework of the Vietnam-Russia Years.

Both countries also exchanged knowledge on containing the COVID-19 pandemic, The Russian counterpart lauded Vietnam’s measures on curbing the spread of the virus.

Deputy PM Minh on the other hand, praised the role, position and contributions of Russia in the UN Security Council. He also thanked Russia for the valuable support that the country had given to Vietnam during the time the country ran for a non-permanent seat in the UNSC.

The Deputy PM also hopes for Russia and other super powers that they may find a common voice on addressing the issues brought upon by Covid-19 while promoting peace and stability in the international community. The two officials vows to continue working together and exchanged views on issues of common concern. Deputy PM Minh also extended an invitation to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for the upcoming ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM) to be held in Vietnam in August 2020.
