Vietravel Airlines targets 2020 for maiden flight

HANOI – Vietnam’s newest airline plans to launch its flight in the first half of 2021.

Vu Duc Bien, CEO of Vietravel Airlines, said that the airline and tourism industriy is expected to bounce back from COVID-19 pandemic. The airline was given principal approval from the Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc with a charter capital of VND700 billion to start this year but has been put on hold because of the crisis.

The airline hopes to provide charter flights for its  one million tourists annually. Vietravel will have their headquarters in central Thừa Thiên Huế Province’s Phú Bài International Airport.

Vietravel is also one of the country’s largest tour operators, are expected to start will three or four leased planes with expansion plans to order an Airbus or Boeing narrowbody jet that will be scheduled for delivery within five years.

“We will buy either Airbus’s A321neo or Boeing’s 737 aircraft,” Mr Bien said in a interview.

Although Vietravel is one of the hardest-hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, Chairman Nguyen Quoc Kya said that the company is commited to retake its place in the competition.

“..the tourism market will see a 33 percent rebound in international tourist numbers from now until December 2020.” Ky added. Vietravel Airlines also has plans to sell up to 34 per cent stake in the company on the local stock market exchange within a year of operations for future expansion plans.
