Wendy & Yeri Exit SM Entertainment: What’s Next?

SM Entertainment has formally ceased for Wendy and Yeri of Red Velvet. But this is not the end of their journey with Red Velvet! Both stars will remain in the group and continue participating in all group activities.

SM Entertainment announced the news on April 4 via Red Velvet’s official social media pages, where it also expressed its gratitude to Wendy and Yeri for their past years of hard work and support.

“Wendy and Yeri’s exclusive contracts with us have come to an end,” the statement read. “We’ve shared many happy moments and are grateful for all they’ve done. Though our official partnership is over, we wish them nothing but success in their next chapters.”

They also mentioned that the two will be working together with the group, which means more Red Velvet music and performances with all five members to look forward to.

Wendy and Yeri

Wendy debuted with the first Red Velvet line-up in 2014; Yeri joined in 2015. Both have expanded their careers beyond the group, launching into solo endeavors in music, variety shows, and more.

The decisions for contracts come after the other members renewed with the company: Seulgi renewed in August 2023, Irene in February 2024, and Joy in January 2025. Varyingly in contrast, while Wendy and Yeri chose a different platform, it shows a whole new setup with some members staying with SM while others going to different platforms, yet keeping the group intact.

Although this arrangement is becoming more of a normality in the K-pop industry, it allows the idols to pursue their careers without leaving their groups behind. And very luckily in this situation for all, maybe ReVeluvs, SM has reassured that the activities of Red Velvet will be running in full swing.

Flooding social media with love and support and gratitude toward the company, many fans are looking for what Wendy and Yeri do next—together as Red Velvet and on their own.

Either way, one thing’s for sure: these five Red Velvet members still have a solid friendship, and the group is spirited about their future.
