Why do Chinese Travelers Cancel their tours to Thailand significantly?

The concern over the rising panic among the Chinese tourists has become a debate among the administrators of Thailand after the shocking abduction of the Chinese actor Wang Xing and fortunately he has been safely rescued. 

“I have returned safely. Thank you Weibo, thank you everyone for sharing the posy, leaving comments and sending messages of concern for me during this time. Hopefully the good things will continue to spread and people’s kindness will be rewarded accordingly.” said the rescued actor 

After the intimidating incident against the Chinese actor Wang Xing which took place a few days ago has sparked the idea of calling off the future tour plans to Thailand by most of the Chinese tourists. They strongly express that they wouldn’t opt to go to Thailand even if the travel is available for cheap. Thailand is the major tourist attraction country for the Chinese tourists during the Lunar new year holiday. 

The information submitted by the Shanghai The Paper states that 30% of the pre-bookings to Thailand which includes both flight tickets, accommodations have been cancelled after this by the Chinese tourists due to the safety concerns. There are many other incidents in recent years, which are taking place in Thailand that intimidate the tourists who wish to visit. It has also affected the tour plans of the tourists from the Southeast Asian countries.

“The impact is huge, with a relatively high cancellation rate of 30 percent. The entire Thai sector, including some neighboring Southeast Asian countries such as Laos, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia has been official” said Lu Yibing, General Manager of Hangzhou New Vision Travel Co.,Ltd.

In addition to that, a Hong Kong singer Eason Chan has cancelled his well-planned concert in Thailand citing the safety of Chinese fans during his tour. These back to back events are expected to ruin the Thai’s economy from ten to twenty percent. Meanwhile, the tourist police has been instructed to provide twenty hour assistance to assure the visitor’s safety.
