Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected Across Yogyakarta Region, BMKG Issues Early Warning

A few hours before dawn, Indonesia’s meteorological agency BMKG (Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika) issued a warning against the coming stretch of steady downpours across Yogyakarta

The weather office flashed locals with warnings of strong wind gusts, thunder, and heavy rain pours by midmorning. Just after sunrise stormy patches rolled in fast, bringing wind bursts along with sharp electric flashes overhead.

According to the advisory, released at 10:15 WIB, rough weather is likely to hit – first touching parts of Bantul, Gunungkidul, and Sleman. Other affected areas will be Imogiri in Bantul; then Wonosari, Playen, Paliyan, Panggang, Saptosari, and Purwosari within Gunungkidul; also Prambanan located in Sleman.

BMKG says the rough weather could stretch farther, touching more spots beyond just Bantul, Gunungkidul, and Sleman – places like Depok, Kalasan, even busy corners of Banguntapan and Sewon might feel it too.

The conditions could persist until 12:00 WIB, raising concerns related to ongoing flooding in spots, reduced visibility, and potential disruptions in routines. Flood warnings still stand, so people should keep an eye on changing skies instead of waiting for alerts. Even a brief downpour might turn risky without notice, especially when storms build fast overnight.

No evacuation orders have been issued so far, but local officials are closely monitoring the situation as the system progresses across the region.
