Malaysia is speeding up its future with the National AI Action Plan 2026, aiming to place AI at the center of its digital economy. This follows the 2021-2025 AI Roadmap, moving from planning to practical steps in areas like finance, manufacturing, and education. Everyday Malaysians will experience smarter services, new job opportunities, and innovation in their own communities.
The plan focuses on five key areas: improving technology, developing talent, establishing strong governance, building top-quality infrastructure, and making steady investments. By 2026, we can expect upgrades to 5G in cities, 5,000 experts trained in AI, a RM500 million startup fund, AI trials in 100 factories, and partnerships with Singapore, South Korea, and Japan. The National AI Office (NAIO), supported by RM18.1 million, manages these efforts for the safe and ethical use of AI in line withglobal standards such as the EU AI Act.
AI could boost Malaysia’s economy by RM530 billion by 2030. It will create jobs and help the country become Southeast Asia’s AI hub. The 2026 budget sets aside RM1.36 billion for digital projects. This includes a RM2 billion Sovereign AI Cloud for secure data handling. As a result, we can expect quicker healthcare diagnostics, better farming, and new business opportunities for everyone.
From AI-powered apps simplifying daily tasks to reskilled workers obtaining high-tech jobs, the roadmap makes digital transformation possible. It’s not just about technology; it’s about trust, growth, and a better future for families and communities.
