The worldwide release of Netflix’s Mousetrap has won well-founded attention. The Korean serial is mastered with a blend of identity theft, surveillance capabilities, cybercrime, and mystery in the context of the psychological, and leaves viewers speculating as to whether the series will expand to more than 10 episodes during its first season.

The first season alleviates its main puzzle, but it left some questions unanswered that might warrant a sequel. For now however, fans have to wait for Netflix’s official decision.

Is Mousetrap Season 2 Confirmed?

Since late August 2026, Mousetrap Season 2 has not been officially confirmed or cancelled. Netflix has not yet said that the thriller will come back for a new season.

The program’s renewal is hinged around viewing figures, rates of completion and audience reaction from abroad. As such, the debut weeks’ performance of the show may do much to decide whether Netflix is interested in another chapter in the series or not.

Could the Story Continue?

The first season wraps up that immediate puzzle centered on Je Moon-jae and “The Rat” but the bigger questions raised give the author Tinker fair warning for future expansion. There’s possibilities of following up on or maybe expanding into digital identity theft, as well as surveillance networks and organized crime that might fit either into a direct follow-up or a wider anthology-type storyline.

A second season might be dedicated to the psychological impact of being stolen and also look at new characters and crime families introduced over the first season.

How Is the Netflix Series Different From the Webtoon?

Mousetrap is inspired by an episode of the Korean Kakao Webtoon “Field Mouse”, the webtoon written by Ludovico, which is based on a Korean folk tale that says a rat can turn into human on top of his nail clippetings.

The webtoon is said to be more psychological horror and surreal, but the Netflix series takes a closer shot with technology and a crime thriller. This adaptation speeds up and makes the script more action in the TV version.

The main character is also significantly enlarged. In the series, Moon-jae is a secluded novelist with his digital personality and biometric data suddenly wiped out.

No-ja Gets a Bigger Role in the Drama

Veteran actor Sul Kyung-gu’s character of No-ja bears one of the biggest changes from the original adaptations. The character plays a much more muted part in the webtoon, but emerges as a key player in the Netflix series.

As an unrelenting loan shark embroiled in the central conundrum, No-ja assists in linking up the identity theft scenario to the series’ criminal network.

Who Could Return for Season 2?

As for Je Moon-jae, Netflix could consider reviving Mousetrap for Ryu Jun-yeol, who would make a strong contender as the actor who has described himself as stereotypical as a badass, and investigate the psychological ramifications of his stolen personality.

It’s possible Sul Kyung-gu would also be in on the action, maybe even in the capacity of No-ja if the writers wanted to delve into his past or any skeletons in the closet regarding his police work. Director Lee Kyu-hyung is also a very possible returning star should the story get bigger and into a police investigation.

What Fans Should Expect Next?

The first thing that remains an open question at the moment is whether or not Netflix considers Mousetrap to be a limited-episode thriller or one that can be expanded as a franchise. The game explores identity theft, cybercrime and Korean folklore to create several avenues for a sequel.

Season 2 has not been confirmed as yet, until Netflix makes an official decision. The acceptance of the audience will surely be very vital and how well it goes over in the world will also matter.
