A Shocking Decision Leads Pacquiao to be a Champion in Recess due to Inactivity

After the World Boxing Association’s decision to strip him of his super welterweight crown, Manny Pacquiao is now a retired champion. This follows the failure of the Philippine senator to defend his title after taking it in July 2019 due to the new coronavirus virus.

In view of this, Pacquiao has been named Champion in Recess per the WBA, while Cuban boxer Yorden Ugas has been promoted to super champion welterweight. As stated to its rule C.14, the WBA allows champions and their teams to know the rules of the WBA to understand the regulations. The 22-24 notes that if, for medical, legal or other reasons outside his control, a champion is unable to defend the belt, he can be named champion in recess,

After being called the champion, Ugas shared that he is open to battling Pacquiao. He even wanted to thank WBA for raising him to the Super Champion role and doing my best for the sport. For him, Manny Pacquiao is a legend and he’s still going to be a champion.

But its also a reminder not to  hijack a championship. This offers fans a chance at 147 pounds to see a fantastic fight for unification. Ugas highlighted that he don’t want easy fights. In contrast of this, after beating Keith Thurman, Pacquiao became the WBA’s “super” champion in the 147-pound division. Ever since, he has not fought. Similarly,, after 38 months without defending the world title, the WBA named heavyweight boxer Mahmoud Charr as champion in recess.

It also withheld its recognition of Beibut Shumenov, the cruiserweight champion, after the Kazakhstani boxer had refused to compete for health reasons. Recently, Pacquiao has been dreaming about going against WBC interim lightweight champion Ryan Garcia and former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor. Nevertheless, Pacquiao’s camp denied knowledge about the Garcia showdown.

Meanwhile, a second-round technical knockout defeat was suffered by McGregor at the hands of ex-UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier. As Team Pacquiao is now considering their options, it was a major blow to what seemed to be close to a done deal between the two.
