The World Health Organization (WHO) is given the mandate to coordinate the search for vaccines for the new corona virus or Covid-19. This was agreed at the Extraordinary High Level Conference or G20 Summit which took place virtually.
According to Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the commitment of the leaders was an international effort in COVID-19.
“Leaders support and are committed to further strengthening WHO’s mandate in coordinating international efforts against viruses including developing vaccines,” Retno said, Friday (3/27).
Separately, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani explained, one of the decisions of the G20 Summit was that the country’s leaders agreed to jointly fight the corona virus pandemic. One step is to work together to find a vaccine.
“Collaboration will be conducted between WHO, GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization), and all countries,” Sri Mulyani said at a press conference at Bogor Palace, West Java.
Sri Mulyani revealed, in a meeting between the Finance Ministers of the previous G20 member countries, there was an agreement to allocate US $ 4 billion to be mobilized from all countries in the world.
This money will be used for research so as to speed up the discovery of the Corona virus vaccine. “This is being discussed together at the level of the Minister of Finance of the G20 members,” she said.
Furthermore, she said, the leaders of the G20 countries agreed to focus on saving human lives. Because the corona outbreak is not just a health problem but a human tragedy.
“At present how all countries in the world are trying to reduce the risk of preventing spread. That will have consequences for many things,” said Sri Mulyani.
In addition, the country’s leaders discussed how to prevent negative impacts on the global economy and resolve global supply chain problems, especially for medical equipment that is currently needed. “It also helps partnerships to help poor countries,” she concluded.
