Amanda Bynes was put on a psychiatric hold for 72 hours in California

Amanda Bynes is currently under psychiatric evaluation.

A source close to the matter confirms to NBC News on March 20 that the 36-year-old actor is on a 72-hour hold and adds, “She hasn’t communicated with her family in a considerable amount of time.”

On March 20, Bynes’ longstanding attorney stated that he was unable to comment on the subject.

The news comes nearly a year after a judge dismissed Bynes’ conservatorship after her parents, Lynn and Rick Bynes, supported her petition to dissolve the arrangement. Since 2013, the former child star has been under personal conservatorship. In 2017, her guardianship of the estate was dissolved.

In a statement released on March 22, 2022, Bynes said through her attorney, David Esquibias, “For the past many years, I have worked diligently to improve my health so I can live and work independently, and I will continue to put my health first in this next chapter. I am excited about my next ventures, especially my fragrance line, and I look forward to providing more information as soon as I can.”

At the time, Judge Roger L. Lund of the Ventura Superior Court stated that the conservatorship was terminated because evidence given to the court demonstrated that “reasons for establishing a conservatorship of the person no longer exist.”

According to court documents filed by Bynes’ attorney in 2022, the actress had been residing in a “organized community for women” since that year, where she was expected to live a “independent” lifestyle and have frequent check-ins with a case manager.

In a 2018 interview with Paper magazine, Bynes previously discussed her substance abuse and being in a “dark place.”

After abandoning acting, her daily routine consisted of “getting stoned, watching television, and tweeting,” she stated.

Bynes stated that she had been sober for nearly four years and credited her parents with “truly helped me get back on track.”

Bynes was scheduled to attend 90s Con alongside former “All That” cast members on the weekend of March 17-19, but she canceled her appearance.

Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell addressed Amanda Bynes during an interview with “Entertainment Tonight” at the event.

Mitchell stated, “We continue to pray for her on her journey, and the fact that she is doing much better is a direct result of our prayers.”

This would have been Bynes’ first public appearance since the conclusion of her eight-year conservatorship.
